Do the quantitative skills that we instill in our science students automatically lead to critical thinking or to general numerical literacy? We will demonstrate and also discuss a set of activities designed to get students visualizing or estimating (very) large or unknown quantities, strategizing to solve completely unfamiliar problems, and confronting their own assumptions. |
